Principal's Bio

Washington Elementary School Principal

Dear Washington Elementary School Families,

As principal of Washington Elementary School it has been an honored to serve and work with our dedicated teachers and staff as we work together to create a positive school culture where all students and staff can succeed both socially and academically.

Here is a little bio of myself.  My father was a Marine and stationed in Twenty-Nine Palms California when I was born.  I attended Yuma High School in Yuma, Arizona where I participated in football, wrestling and swimming.  I received my undergraduate degree from Northen Arizona University in Secondary Education and played Rugby for fun.  I received my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University as well.  I began my teaching career at Dysart Junior High in the Phoenix area.  I have had the opportunity to coach football, basketball and wrestling.  I taught industrial arts and career and technology education for 17 years.  I took my first administrative assignment at Mingus High School in Cottonwood, Az. as assistant principal.  I became principal of Washington Elementary School in 2006 and have been principal here for 11 years.  In addition to working with children most of my life, I love spending time with my family.  My wife Kenya and I have 4 children.  My daughter Amber is married with three children.  I have three sons, Corbin, Dallin and Daniel.  Dallin and Daniel are in high school.  I enjoy fishing, hiking, camping, biking and watching my boys play sports.

I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and your child.  We are a team and together we can make great things happen.

Kindest Regards

John Summerville, Principal
